KPX held a Briefing Session to prepare for emergencies in Power suppy and demand ÃÖÇöÁ¤ 2012.05.23 222

On March 15, Korea Power Exchange (KPX) held a briefing session to establish a contact system (hot line) with in case of emergencies in power supply and demand. According to a source at KPX, this briefing session was intended to build a close contact system among relevant agencies in order to enable each agency to take measures quickly. This is to prevent disasters or safety accidents resulting from blackouts in case of emergency situation such as the urgent load shedding on September 15 of the last year.

Many people in chare of power supply and demand emergency operations participated in this event. Most of the participants were from Ministry of Knowledge & Economy(MKE), major power generation companies and KEPCO. At the event, Ho-Ki Nam (CEO and Chairman of KPX) emphasized, ¡°Since it is difficult to balance supply and demand through all four seasons, not just in summer and winter, until 2014, it is imperative for relevant agencies to cooperate closely with one another in case of possible emergencies.¡±

First of all, KPX made a presentation on improvements in the power supply and demand operating system after the emergency load shedding on 15 September 2011. They explained the stable operating results of power systems this winter and changes made at KPX. Secondly, KPX elaborated on step-by-step strategies in case of power emergencies and explained the emergency hot line contact system. Finally, participants had an opportunity to attend, ¡°Mock Training for Power Supply and Demand Emergency Situations.¡± At this event, participants were reminded of the importance of a close contact system among relevant agencies in case of a power emergency, and asserted they would be able to rapidly and efficiently respond to emergencies by understanding the overview of how power system operates.

Through this session, KPX and relevant agencies could share the ways to take immediate and efficient measures in case of emergencies and to minimize damage in the future.
